CMC Updates

By Allen Nadeau
Committee representative for NESMA

The CMC received 4 proposals for the position of lobbyist replacing DNB Lobby. Ultimately, Statehouse Partners, LLC was selected to represent the CMC and the organizations that make up the CMC including NESMA. Andy Markowski and Eric Gjede are the managing partners in the group. Many of you may already know Eric from his years with CBIA.

The CMC board is pleased with this selection and feels that Statehouse Partners will represent the manufacturing community well.

Eric and Andy briefed the board Monday about the newly opened legislative session. This year the governor and the labor committee are prioritizing paid sick leave. The governor’s bill looks to have companies with as little as one employee provide 40 hours sick leave annually to their staff at the rate of 1-hour sick leave earned for each 30 hours worked. The labor committee has not put any details out so far, so we will need to keep an eye on their work. The governor’s bill would remove the exception for manufacturers that has been in place since 2011.

As the session progresses, we will send out email blasts with items that are relevant to our organization. You may be asked to contact your legislators, provide written testimony, or for those willing, give zoom, or live testimony.

I would truly appreciate any help you can give.
