NESMA is pleased to help direct is members toward a wide variety of resources designed to help their employees and businesses:

 

Scholarships 

NESMA Scholarships (need information on how to apply, when we give these out, how many are given, what amount etc)

Promoting education for up and coming students and professionals within the industry is an important part of NESMA’s mission. Throughout the year, NESMA holds events to raise money for its scholarship program. NESMA offers two $1,000 scholarships annually, awarded each May. 

Award #1: to a graduating senior attending high school in a New England state (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont)

 

 Eligibility Requirements:

  • Pursuing post secondary education in an accredited manufacturing/mechanical skilled trades program or engineering
  • Evidence of successful completion of courses relevant to your chosen career field
  • Community Service
  • Financial need is considered
  • Letter of Recommendation Requirement: Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a math or science teacher and one from someone who knows you well.
  • Essay Requirement: Write an essay addressing your desire to enter your chosen field and state your career goals. Limit your thoughts to no more than one page.

Award #2 to a graduating senior, currently enrolled student or student returning to school who is a child or grandchild of an employee or owner of a NESMA member company in good standing

  • Letter of Recommendation Requirement:  One letter of recommendation which demonstrates work ethic in employment, academics or school/community activities. This can be from a coach, employer, teacher or someone else who knows you well.
  • Essay Requirement: Write an essay addressing your desire to enter your chosen field and state your career goals. Limit your thoughts to no more than one page.

With new advances in technology, and growing demand for highly skilled workers, it’s more important than ever to make sure your company’s professional training is up to date. Goodwin College’s Manufacturing Training Programs will help you maintain your competitive edge while increasing your company’s productivity and quality of work. We will work with you to address your current workplace needs through expedited, skill-based training. We offer training in our state-of-the-art manufacturing center in East Hartford or, if you prefer, we can come to your facility – with our Advanced Manufacturing Mobile Training Lab. Our self-powered, climate-controlled, Wi-Fi-enabled Lab offers educational programs from Goodwin College, at your facility, in the convenience of a mobile classroom. Our professional training programs cover a variety of disciplines including: quality assurance, technical skills, business management, and lean manufacturing. Sessions are delivered in short durations, reducing the time your workers are away from your facility. Training sessions range from 4 to 45 hours for completion. We can accommodate up to 14 employees in each session.

Bristol Technical Education Center provides a diverse student population with a safe environment that promotes community interaction and student learning, which is engaging and prepares them for business and industry as entry-level professionals. Adult, eleventh- and twelfth-grade students come here from 42 towns to learn a technology and become a part of our family-like community. Adult students (high school diploma or GED required) attend our full-time day programs to earn a 900-hour technology certificate.  Unlike our other technical high schools, Bristol TEC students remain a part of their sending schools and can participate in sporting events or musical groups. If attending Bristol TEC senior year, students will receive a diploma from their sending school and still participate in our year-end certificate ceremony. Bristol Technical Education Center offers programs in Precision Machining Technology and Welding and Metal Fabrication for local students.
